Psychotherapy developed out of a medical paradigm, so its not surprising that most therapists still operate out of spaces that can look a bit like a doctor's office. This has changed in recent years as the benefits of walking in nature have enhanced the levels of trust, awareness and emotional regulation in therapy. I'm very fortunate to live a few minutes walk from Eccup Reservoir and the surrounding woods and farmland. I'm now offering the option of "Walk and Talk" dialogues in this beautiful countryside, either as a one off 90 minute session or as part of our continuing therapeutic relationship. Travelling through different terrains, feeling responsiveness in our bodies and senses rather than just living in our heads can help "frame" our lives, choices and priorities differently. By feeling the soles of our feet on the ground, we can feed our "souls": the truest and largest sense of self which so easily gets overwhelmed by life's busyness and obligations. Outdoor Therapy offers a way to "live our way into new ways of thinking," So way not give "Talk and Walk therapy" a go in the beautiful surroundings of North Leeds.
