Beyond Tools and Techniques: Why Relational Psychotherapy Matters When CBT Isn’t Enough

You’ve done the work, but the patterns remain. Perhaps you’ve navigated a course of CBT through the NHS or a private provider. You learned the strategies, you challenged the thoughts, and you found some helpful coping mechanisms. Yet, beneath the surface, the "old patterns" still have their hold. You might feel that while your thinking has changed, your feeling hasn't quite caught up.

The 'Missing Piece'

Standard cognitive therapies often focus on the mind, but they can overlook the parts of us that make us most human: our deep-seated emotions and the way our bodies hold onto memories that words cannot reach.

If you are looking for a "larger canvas" to explore your life, I offer a quiet, reflective space in my North Leeds office,  where your history is witnessed with warmth, patience, and active engagement—not just clinical silence.

How We Work Together

This is an invitation into self-discovery. We move at your pace, developing a unique relationship that honours how you’ve adapted to life’s challenges. My inter-personal approach is built on three core pillars:

  • Awareness as the Catalyst for Change True change happens when we stop trying to "fix" ourselves and start growing in acceptance of who we are. We look at the roots, not just the symptoms.

  • Active Responsiveness I won’t just sit in silence. Our relationship is a living thing. I use my own reactions, body language, and "mirroring" to help ground you. As our trust grows, I offer humble challenges and honest feedback, always holding the belief that you are the ultimate expert on your own life.

  • A Down-to-Earth Connection With over 15 years of experience supporting people through existential crises and deep distress, I hold my theoretical training lightly. I aim to bring warmth, gentleness, and even a sense of humour to our "soul work." You are more than a diagnosis or a set of symptoms.

Take the Next Step

Choosing long-term therapy is a significant investment in your future self. It’s okay to feel anxious about the vulnerability or the cost.

Location and Fees

I offer sessions in my home office in Alwoodley and online via a secure, confidential video platform. Both formats allow for a consistent, boundaried, and deep therapeutic relationship. Many clients find that working from their own space can actually facilitate a different kind of openness and reflection.

Usually our meetings will be weekly and will last 50 minutes. In person sessions will take place in my home office in Alwoodley (stairs to access).

I charge £75 per session although I do have some lower cost slots. This fee reflects your investment in the process, my level of training and my commitment to you. I'm also recognised by the following health insurers: Aviva, AXA, Vitality and WPA.   If you have health insurance, please contact your provider and request a pre-authorization code to see me. My Provider Numbers are:  Aviva [600189024]. AXA [AC08251] , Vitality [SP125451] and WPA [921528701].
